Description

A rich and flavorful Blackened Steak and Shrimp Alfredo combining tender top sirloin steak and succulent shrimp with a creamy homemade alfredo sauce, served over perfectly cooked penne pasta. This dish offers a delightful blend of Cajun-inspired spices and classic Italian flavors, making it an impressive yet easy-to-make dinner for four.

Ingredients

Scale

Pasta

  • 8 ounces penne pasta

Protein

  • 1 pound large shrimp (raw, deveined)
  • 1 pound top sirloin steak, cut into cubes

Sauce

  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 2 cups freshly grated parmesan cheese

Seasonings

  • Blackened seasoning (to taste)
  • Kosher salt (to taste)
  • Black pepper (to taste)

Other

  • Vegetable oil (for cooking shrimp and steak)
  • Chopped parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cook Pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the penne pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain the pasta and set it aside while you prepare the proteins and sauce.
  2. Cook Shrimp: Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Season the shrimp generously with blackened seasoning. Cook the shrimp for 2 to 3 minutes on each side until they turn pink and opaque. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Sear Steak: In the same skillet, season the cubed top sirloin steak with blackened seasoning. Sear the steak cubes for about 3 to 4 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness. Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside with the shrimp.
  4. Prepare Alfredo Sauce: Reduce the heat to medium. Add the unsalted butter to the skillet and melt it. Add the diced onion and sauté until translucent, about 3 to 4 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant. Slowly pour in the heavy cream, stirring constantly, and let it simmer for about 5 minutes until slightly thickened. Gradually whisk in the freshly grated parmesan cheese until the sauce is smooth and creamy.
  5. Combine Pasta, Protein, and Sauce: Add the cooked penne pasta to the skillet with the Alfredo sauce. Toss in the cooked shrimp and steak cubes. Stir everything together to ensure the pasta and proteins are well coated with the sauce. Season with kosher salt and black pepper to taste. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

  • For best results, use freshly grated parmesan cheese rather than pre-grated cheese for a smoother sauce.
  • Blackened seasoning can be adjusted according to your spice preference; add more for a bolder flavor.
  • Make sure not to overcook the shrimp and steak to keep them tender and juicy.
  • If desired, substitute penne with fettuccine or linguine for a different pasta shape.
  • This dish pairs well with a light green salad or steamed vegetables for a complete meal.
