Apple Filling
- 8 Granny Smith apples, peeled and chopped into small pieces
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 2 tsp lemon juice
- 2 tbsp all purpose flour
- ½ tsp ground cinnamon
Crumble Topping
- 1¼ cup all purpose flour
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp salt
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350ºF (175ºC) to ensure it’s ready for baking the crumble evenly.
- Prepare Apple Filling: In a large bowl, combine the peeled and chopped Granny Smith apples with vanilla extract, granulated sugar, lemon juice, all purpose flour, and ground cinnamon. Toss everything together until the apples are fully coated in this flavorful mixture.
- Make Crumble Topping: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Pour in the melted unsalted butter and use a fork to mix until the mixture forms a crumbly texture.
- Assemble the Dish: Grease a 9×9 inch baking dish lightly with butter or cooking spray. Pour the apple filling evenly into the dish.
- Add Crumble Topping: Evenly sprinkle the prepared crumble topping over the apple filling to cover it completely.
- Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until the apple filling is bubbling and the crumble topping is golden brown and crisp.
- Cool and Serve: Remove from the oven and allow to rest for 10 to 15 minutes before serving. This lets the filling set slightly for easier serving and enhances flavor. Enjoy warm.
